Welcome to 2020 and a January Catalogue #226 which I normally avoid so I can have a month off. But…the extenuating circumstances of the conflagration of bush fires along the east coast, Tassie and in south west WA caused me to step back from our normal Christmas and New Year celebrations and think about the hundreds of families who’ve lost everything and sadly family members. Such tragedies which have been exacerbated by the fuel loads in forests and arsonists are once again delivered to us by people who disagree with the age old Aboriginal methods of burning the fuel load to prevent the infernos we currently have. Will we learn anything from all this? Probably not. And it’s not the peak of summer yet! So if you’re looking for a charity to donate to, the RFS in NSW, Qld , Vic, Tas, SA and WA should be your first consideration. I pledge to donate 10% of all sales in this catalogue to support our firies.
And so to books. There are a few rare titles amongst this lot but a much smaller list than generally offered. Whilst this list is dedicated to our wonderful volunteer fire fighters, it is also dedicated to serving and ex servicemen and women who may be doing it hard. Active service, whilst exciting for many, is nothing more than a mental agony for many on returning home with a sometimes unsympathetic DVA. Who can tell who is affected? In my view ‘ACTIVE SERVICE’ should attract an automatic Gold Card. I ring as many mates as I can every little while to make sure they’re still with us and have a support system around them. So…HAPPY NEW YEAR ONE AND ALL M&J
